THE ZEALAND A RINK.
RE-OPENING LAST NIGHT.
A great measure of success attended the re-opening last evening for the summer season of the Zealandia Open-air Skating Rink and Switchback in Stanley-street. The splendid evening no doubt contributed greatly to the success of the out-of-doora amusement, and induced the large attendance with which the new management of the rink were favoured. Upwards of six hundred people were present, the members of the fairer sex predominating amongst the rinkers and onlookers. The new outdoor floor and also the smaller rink indoors were in fine condition. The place was brilliantly lit up, and the spectacle, as viewed from the ball-room balcony, was a very animated and interesting one.
The ball-room upstairs was fairly patronised, and the giddy switchback railway and the bowling alley both did a great business. A full atatf of attendants did all possible for the comfort of visitors and skaters. The former Columbia Rink brass band, which was stationed in a pavilion in the centre of the rink,. under Mr Morris, discoursed a number of favourite rinking and dance airs.
Altogether the opening gathering was a mosfcsuccessful one, and the Zealandiashould be a favourite even ing resort during the summer season. The rink will be opened daily from 7.30 p.m. to 10, and on Saturday next there will be a children's matinee from 2 to 5 p.m.
