The Parnell Inquiry.
VINDICATION OE MR PARNELL,
ADMISSIONS AND DENIALS.
Londox, April 30.
In the course of his evidence before the " Times"-Parnell Commission, Mr Parnell denied that the Fenians organ-
Ised his American tour in IS7I. He stated that Kelly had not been a member of any secret society since ha joined the Parnell parly. Mr Parncllswore that he never took any active part himself in the everyday work of the League, and had nothing to do with the disposal of the funds, except during two months in the year 1882. He admitted that he advised boycotting, but denied that he had ever counselled intimidation. It was untrue that he, Egan, and others were guilty of treasonable practices in Paris in the year 1882. He denied that he had ever spoken to Major Le Caron about the necessity of ameliorating the condition of Ireland by force of arms, and said it was absurd to suggest that he advocated armed rebellion, or even that ho communicated with the Clan-na-Gael. He admitted v/riting two letters to Egan while serving sentence in Kilmainham Gaol. The witness denied categorically that he ever sanctioned the application of the League's funds to the purposes of outrage', that he was ever consulted about proposed outrages, or that he heard of Invincible plots before the committal of the murders. It was unlikely that he could have stated at Cincinnati during his visit to America that Ireland would never be satisfied until the last links with England had been destroyed, though he was unable to remember, at tins lapse of time, what he did say in the course of his speech on that occasion. He believed the Phoenix ParK murders were planned in America, and not by Fenians. He admitted giving Byrne a cheque for 00, but was not aware at the time that he was fleeing from justice.
