The commander of the German corvette which conveyed ex-King Malietoa, of Samoa, to the island of Jaluit, where he is now being kept in exile, reports that he expresses regret for his former attitude towards Germany, and begs the Emperor William to look upon the past as expiated by the exile he has undergone.
It is stated that in view of this expression of regret on the part of Malietoa, live Emperor William has decided that he shall be speedily liberated.
London, April 30.
Mr ~W. L. Roes has been interviewed by a representative of the " Pall Mall Gazette." He stated that he had written to the Marquis of -Salisbury, to Mr J. Blame, Secretary of State for the United States, and to Prince Bismarck, with reference to the questions to be di.cussed at the Conference on Samoan affairs now sitting at Berlin, and that he urged the restoration of ex-King Malietoa, who was deposed by the Germans, and is now being kept in exile on one of the islands of tho Pacific. Mr Bees also suggested that he should himself appear before the Conference on behalf of the Samoans.
