After they had brought the property to thaC state in which it could be best available for the purposes of the trust, the trustees obtained .the u?e of rooms in the Municipal Buildings for the school. These weie obtained free, as the funds of the trust do nob at present warrant any extensive expenditure. The next business waa to obtain a master, and applications were invited up to 20th of April for a master duly qualified to teach the following branches of art: — Drawing, from the round and' flat. Painting, in oil, water-colour, and monochrome, from casts, nature, and from life. Design, perspective, and geometry, mechanical and architectural drawing. The master was also to be required to give lectures ou art subjects to pupils, who are to be provided with drawing materials, etc., and with tuition free of cost, subject; of course to restrictions to be drawn up by tho trustees. Five applications for the mastership were received, all beirg from Auckland. At a meeting of the tru3tees'held yesterday, it was decided to extend the time of receiving applications for another three months, a& it was folt that the chance should be given to art teachers in Australia and in England to apply for the position. The salary is to commence at £200 a year, but when certain annuities fall in and a valuable property at present unproductive is realised the trustees hope to raise it to between £300 and £400 per annum.
