HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was hold this afternoon. Present: Messrs M," Niccol (in the chair) D. Goldie, A. E. Devore, J. Savage, Cap-, tain H. F. Anderson, Winstorie, A. H.# Nathan,-P. Dignan. Works and Tariff Committee. —The following recommendations of this Committee were read and adopted:—(l) That the application of the Waitemata Naval Artillery Volunteer Corps for a site for a coal-shed near Hobaon-street Wharf be declined. (2) That Mr Jenkinson be informed that the' Board does not at present require any ' glass-lined stoneware or petrified concrete slabs. (3) That; the plans for enlargement of fishmarket be approved and tenders called for the work. (4) That application be made to the City Council to lay water maius in Quay-street. (5) That lower tumbler shaft and duplicate wheels for dredger No. 121 be ordered from the makers of the dredger;' 6. That stringer be bolted to timber .slide at Calliope Dock. 7. That MrC. 8. George be informed that the cost of constructing and maintaining a wharf on Lake Beach strong enough to stand in the position indicated, is beyond what the present traffic would warrant. (8) That a copy of the report of the foreman of works re, " Haslam's patent pontoons " be forwarded to Mr Haslam. (9) That l permission 'be granted to the Waitemata County Council to deposit earth on foreshore near Northcote Wharf, upon condition that the reclamation be protected to the satisfaction of the foreman of works.

Thanks.—The following letter was received from Mr Hermann Brown, German Consul: "Dear Sir,—l am instructed by the Imperial Consuls afc Sydney and Apia to thank the Auckland Harbour Board for their kind oiler in placing the graving docks at the disposal of the German vessels, but regret to state that bofore my letter reached Apia arrangements had been made with tbe s.s. Lubeok to tow H.I.G.M.s. Olga to Sydney. lam, however, to inform you that your kind offer has been transmitted to the Admiralty at Berlin."

Foot-bridge. — A letter was received from the Public Works Department acknowledging the receipt of £200, the Board's share of the cost of the footbridge to the breakwater. —The Chairman said that in accordance with his promise Mr Fernandez had given £100 towards the erection of the bridge, and that as the £200 had now been deposited he supposed that the work would be proceeded with at once.

Shed.—Permission was given to Mr A. Hanna to erect a shed on the bank above Orakei Bridge subject to the usual regulations.

Landinci Exhibits.—Mr J. J. Craig wrote stating that the exhibits from Melbourne Exhibition were now being returned, and he applied to have them landed free of wharfage dues same as the Indian and Colonial Exhibition. Permission was given in accordance with the request. Gas Company.—A letter was read from the Secretary of the Gas Company, enclosing some particulars as to a proposed bill to be brought before Parliament next session. These have already been given in our columns. —It was decided by the Board to take no action until a copy of the proposed Bill was boforo them.
