PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of this Council was held last evening. There were present :—The Mayor (Mr S. T. George, in the chair), arid Messrs Gay, Gilmour, McCori* nell, Savage, and Eyre; ',

. New Members.-—Messrs McCabe and Lyell, and Captain Thomas, the newlyelected members of the Council, made the usual statutory declaration and took thenseats. -

■; Peopbrtt Tax.—David Cremen wrote stating that he had abandoned an old brick houso at the rear of his premises, as it was untenantable,,and asked that it might be scratched oil the rate books, so as to free him from the necessity of paying property tax upon it.—The Mayor said the Council had ho power to deal with the latter.—Received.-.. -■,-.■■ \ ■ '" '■'■■- .'.'

Parnell School Committee. — This Committee wrote requesting permission to drain hU.)faCe water into-the Alpha Road main drain.—Request granted. , Beach Road.—Mr;.; James Dilworth renewed an application made last year in regard to a road fromy Mechanics' Buy to St. George's B oad.-^ltwas resolved that the Government be petitioned to construct the road.''
