LATER.

(by telegraph—own correspondent. )

New Plymouth, this day. PARTICULARS OF THE CASUALTY-

The Hawea left the anchorage at Onehunga about noon on Monday, crossed the Bar about two hours later, and arrived off the J.ew Plymouth Breakwater about midnight;' She anchored outside and about half past six this morning she hove her anchor so as to come into the harbour and to get alongside the wharf in time for the train, as she had some passengers for the express. It was low water at the time. The anchor when being hove slipped off its fastening and was lost.

All on board are very reticent. According to accounts received here, the steamer then proceeded into the harbour to take up her berth at the wharf, making the usual detour towards the shore to do so. While coming in, before she turned to the north-west, she struck on the port side aft, on what is assumed to be a rock, and afterwards stuck fast midway between the wharf and the shore.

During the night a heavy gale from N. to N. VV. had sprung up, and at tho time she struck a heavy roll was coming in.
