IN BANKRUPTCY.
William Higgin.s, on his oath before the Official Assignee this morning, stated: —l am
a journeyman shoemaker, and am at present employed at one of the factories on short time, averaging only two days a week since Christmas. I have nob been on full time for two years. My employment is piece work, and yields about' 10s a day. I have a sick wife and three young children to support, and my earnings for a long time past have been insufficient for our maintenance. I owe £42 to nineteen creditors, all for necossaries except the doctor's bill for £11 10s; several bakers are amongst my creditors. When one tradesman told me he could not give me any credit I went toanother, but always explained my position. I hoped for better times and meant to pay everybody, but my principal creditor got judgment and I had to go to gaol for seven days, and when I was released, another creditor was prepared to send me back for 21 days, upon which my father, after great sacrifice, found the money to file with. All I have consists of the remains of my furniture and clothing, worth not more than £5.
