REMOVAL OF CITY REFUSE.

.A correspondent writes inquiring the cost i jf removing city night-soil and refuse :it 1 may be of public interest to publish the terms and conditions under the existing contracts. Removal of Refuse, Shop Sweepings, Etc.—The charges authorised to be collected and made by the contractor on the above from Ist January are as follows: — 1. Removing refuse, per cubic foot and under, three farthings. 2. Removing refuse, between one and two cubic feet, one | penny halfpenny. 3. Removing refuse, between two and three cubic feet, two pence farthing. 4. Removing refuse above three cubic feet, for every cubic foot or portion of a cubic foot up to one cubic yard, three farthings.

#■ Night Soil Removal. —1. Emptying closet boxes or pans, nor more than 3 cubic feet, and supplying £ cwt of dry pulverised earth or clay each time—3|d weekly, and 4d fortnightly ; and doing same without supply of earth or clay, same charges. 2. Emptying closet boxes or pans containing more than 3 cubic feet, and not more than 5 cubic feet, and supplying earth as above, 5d weekly and s£d fortnightly ; and for same withorwithout supplying earth orclay, same charges. 3. Emptyingcesspoolsorjcesspits, per cubic yard —7s 6d. Removing yard or other rubbish, per cubic yard—2s 6d.

Nighc-soil removal is compulsory by bylaw every fourteen days. Dust is removed at the discretion of the burgesses. The dust carts go around twice a week, the cost to be defrayed by the person making the dust,
