Thames, this day. An old man named Whicher has been sentenced to three days' imprisonment for using obscene language in the streets.
Mr James McGowan addresses the electors of Shortland this evening. Great interest is taken in the election of a borough councillor for the South Ward, which takes place on the Bth September. There are two candidates—Messrs J. McAndrew (the retiring member) and R. Comer —and a close contest is anticipated. Ie is generally expected, however, that Mr McAndrew will be re-elected.
