ALLEGED ATTEMPTED OUTRAGE.

Oy Saturday last "William Donaldson, engine-driver on the Auckland and Onehunga line, reported to Constable Haslett, stationed at Onehunga, thab while bringing his train through the Ellerslie station at 10.40 on the previous evening, ha observed an obstruction on the line. Ha stopped the engine, and found that the obstruction was a two-wheeled truck, which hadbeen used on the platform. When the engine was pulled up the truck was right under the wheels, and. had ho not observed the obstruction in time, a terrible accident might have been occasioned. Constable Haslett proceeded to make inquiries, and suspicion fell on two young men named Carey and Green, who had been seen near the station just before the train came in, and who had broken in the door of the Ellerslie Hotel about the same time and demanded drink. The suspected parties werg arrested last night by Sergeant Green, Detective Hughes, Constables Collis and Has> lett. Prisoners Before the Court James Carey and Frank Green were brought up at the Police Court to-day and charged with unlawfully and maliciously putting on the railway line at Ellerslie a two-wheeled truck, with intent to obstruct an engine, and with unlawfully damaging a door in the Ellerslie Hotel.

Mr O'Meagher appeared for the accused, and asked for a remand, as he had only been instructed this morning. Remanded till Monday next.
