VOLUNTEER NOTES.
No. 2 Battalion. The usual parade of No. 2 Battalion took place last evening at the Drill-shed. There was a good muster of the City Guards, Victorias, Newton, and Queen's Own Rifles, under their respective officers. LieutenantColonel Dignan was in command, and inspected the men. The Battalion then formed in column and marched to Princesstreet, where the men were pub through a course of drill, after which they marched back to the Shed and the parade concluded. Royal Irish Bifles. Another well-attended meeting of this company was held last night in the Catholic Institute. Lieutenant J. Patterson presided, and Lieutenant Leahy and all the non-commissioned officers were present. Lieutenant-Colonel Mahon also attended for the purpose of swearing in new members'. Seven were admitted. It was decided to elect Messrs W. J, Suiter, J. Costello, and P. Gallagher honorary members of the corps. It was agreed to allow the election of a captain and a treasurer to remain in abeyance for another fortnight. The next meeting will be on Monday at the Drill-shed at 7.30 o'clock. It is anticipated that the corps will be duly, gazetted during the present week. Should this be done, the corps will attend battalion parade next Tuesday. Capitation. It is rumoured that, in order to prevent any doubts about the correctness of capitation lists in future, a member of the district staff will be instructed to attend all inspections and check the returns of men given as eligible for receiving Government capitation.
