A case numbered 51, and filled with books and curioß from Sir Geo, Grey's collection, arrived yesterday afternoon from Kawauand Is now in the custody of the librarian (Mr Shillington). Its contents are as follows:— 10S6 books ; a packet containing one book and gold medal, with red morocco caee with gold order : a packet containing Cromwell's letters; a packet containing Bfty-two public papers ; a packet containing 23 letters ; a packet containing Mr Chapman's journal; a packet containing letters of travellers ; a packet containing two orders of battle ; a water buffalo in jfldo from Summer Palace, Pekin ; a greenstone or jade plate, with Chinese gold lettering; 1 greenstone mere (aged)) 1 greenstone chisel; 2 pieces of greenstone), Ist, great seal of New Zealand ; Ist, great seal of New Muneter ; Ist, great seal of New Ulster; Zoological Society's presentation medal for 1526 ; medal from artisans of Wellington, 1853 (a presentation) j 1 silver spade, with two brackets and screws (proeontation); 5 presentation silver tiowels. There has also come to hand £500 worlh of new booka, which wero brought froiii Lon-j dan by the s.s. Doric to the order of the' City Council. They are a valuable sol of works, tbo bulk of them being cither artistic or seiontific in character. Thoy comprise Soworby's English Botany in 12 volumes. Montfancon's "Antiquity Explainodj" in 7 or 8 largo folio volumes: Plates of the Italian Kenaieanco ; " Tho Pictorial Arts in Jopan," " Drawings of Ancient embroidery;" "Modern Ornamentation ;" Prof. Owen's " Extinct Wingless Birds of New Zealand ;" "The Genera of Birds " in anumber of large folio volumes ; Bewick's AVodcuts ; The Designs of Miss Jones ; Architectural Parallels ; Archltestural Antiquities of Rome ; Gunther's Introduction to tho Study of Birds ; the Flora AUatralionsia in 7 vols. ;_ the History of Art in Ancient Egypt; Phoenicia and cognate countries. Then tco there is a good collection of technological works, at the head of them being, " British Manuf%cturinglndu3triep,"in Hvols. There is a volume on "Hospital Construction and Management," which should prove valuable ; and we notice also Dr. Richardson's popular medical works. The remainder of tho collection comprises theology, hiatory, travels, voyages, explorations, and biography.
