FUNERAL OF AN OLD MAHURANGI SETTLER.

Warkwortk, this day. A shade of gloom has been hanging over this commuuity tho last few days through the death ofMrM.W. Munro.one of tho oldest settlers in this district. Tho funeral, a Masonic one, took placo yesterday afternoon. Tho Masonic brotherhood hold a funeral service in the Masonic Hall at 3 o'clock, after which tho cortege proceeded to tho Presbyterian Kirk, tho Masons, to tho number of about 30, in tho dress of tho Order, preceding, followed by some 400 settlers and friends from tho district. Tho .Rev. Mr McKinnoy conducted tho service, after which tho cortege farmed in procession and proceeded to tho cemotery near the manso. Itcv. Mr McKinnoy oflbrod an impressive prayor, after which the chaplain of the Order read from thoir rubric a homily on tho importance of living tho true life, and thus hoiug prepared to enter upon tho immortal. Tho usual Masonic ceremony of tho brethren walking around and dropping a sprig of acacia on tho gravo closed tho sceno. Tho crowd thon took a parting look at tho coffin covered with wroatliß, and di.sporacd. Mr Mumo died at tho comparatively early ago of about 59. It may bo said of him that. " A princo is fallen in Israel," and his active enorgotic labours for the welfaro of this district will not soon bo forgotten.
