Mr G. M. Reed and the N.Z. Land Settlement Company.

Mk O. M. Reed writes to us from London pointing nut that the document published in our issue of July 22nd relative to the transfer of sixty shares in Mr Do Lautour's Company to Mr Brott might possibly leave the impression that the transaction was unclosed, and that ho was still indebted to Mr Brott. Ho thinks it should be mentioned that this is not so, but that the arrangement was afterwards adjusted. He observes: " Those transactions were for my convenience when I was waiting and unable to obtain a settlement of my claim on the East Coast, since by me in a court of law, Mr De Lautour know this porfectly well when ho charged Mr Brett with being a shareholder in the Land Company." This is quite true; Mr Reed had brought a very difficult and delicate mission in Englund to a successful issue at very considerable personal sacrifice and outlay, which he was unable to get the Company to ro-imburse until he had wasted months in pressing a suit against them. The transfer of the shares was a more matter of temporary convenience, and Mr Brott had even forgotten that thirty shares stood in his name until Mr Do Lautour brought tho matter to his notice by tho extraordinary statcmont that ho was "onoof tho largest shareholders in tho Company." Tho arrangement with Mr Heed was of such an ordinary business kind that no importance whatever was attached to it, more especially as it had been promptly and satisfactorily settled up.
