CAPTURE OF A SMUGGLER.
To-day Sergeant Clark, of tho Water Police, accompanied by Mr Parker, of H.M. Customs, and " acting on information re' ceived," proceeded to Ponsonby, and arrested a man named Ulrich Norberg on a charge of smuggling s!jlbs. of tobacco off the s.s. lonic. The prisoner, it appears, is a deserter from that vessel, and he sold the tobacco referred to to a city shopkeeper. The caso came on for hearing at tho Police Court at noon to-day, and defendant was lined £11 and costs or in default ono month's m prison ment.
