TIMARU, this day.
A strong north-wester is blowing to-day, but not violent enough to do damage. Two steamers—tho Westport and Waitaki -are alongside the wharf, held hard against it by the wind on their broadside, but are lying easy. Tho water supply is a great boon to residents in the main streets, where it is used plentifully to lay the dust.
DUNEDIN, this day. THE PJKNGUIN DISCHARGES AT
DUNEDIN.
Tho Penguin was brought up close along! side Battray-street Wharf. Sho grounded slightly off Kavcnabourno, but returned at full tile easily. It is generally admitted that the trip was a success, and that tho money spent on tho channel has been pro» ductive of great good. The Hon. Mr Oliver, Mr Fergus, M.H.8., and Mr Fish, M.H.K., 'spoke strongly in favour of tho Board's operations, It is expected that in three months atime all intercolonial vessels will bo able to tome to Duncdin,
