The annual meeting of the atepaycrs of the above district was held jt tho Otara school-house on Saturday, July 12, Mr Woodward in the Chair. TbJ following is the statement of accounts laid Store the ratepayers :—Receipts : Balance July 1, IS7S, £164 Is ; government grants,£364 19s Id ; license fees, £14 15s 6d ; rate) £211 Ss 3d. Total, £755 3s lOd. Expe|ture : New road survey, £2 2s; consliction, £5; bridges, £57 2d ; repairs and iprovemcuts, £551 6d ; tools and materials Ell; salary, £10 ; commission, £11 5s 9d [advertising, £5 16s 6d ; miscellaneous, £16 Id ; balance, £100 Ss lOd ; Total, 755 3s lOd. out of the balance however vaousaccounts had been paid and others w_ duo which would reduce it to about halihat amount. Some further explanation have been asked by Mr McGcchie as to the rpenditurc in the different parts of the distfct. A very warm discussion took place, . pecting the payment of several large adunts to tho order of a member, for varioj works done in his subdivision, beyond whjwas authorised by the Board, and withit the knowledge of the remaining meiSers. There was a very strong exprcssp. of opiuiou, and several motions Svere made with a view to prevd such an occurrence in future, butjthe matter eventually dropped. The mdber referred to has been a very useful trusjo for several years past, spariug neither lis time or trouble, and has suggested ai carried out several useful linproveineutsand but for this serious mistake woil certaiuiy have deserved the thanks IE the ratepayers. The correctness of je accounts having been certified by je auditors, Rev G. Smales and Mr \ S. Styak, the Chairman moved that try be passed which was carried. Tho flowing ratepayers were elected trustees I the current year : —Messrs J. McGechie, l. Stimpson, R. Hattaway, H. Brown, anj. Stoddart. As auditors : Rev G. Small and W. S.
