GRAMMAR SCHOOL GOVERNORS AGAIN IN TROUBLE.
There is every indication that the unfortunate Grammar School will shortly be again without a local habitation. It will be iv the recollection of our readers the Government, commiserating the houseless aud forlorn condition of the Board of Governors of this institution, generously allowed them the use of the District Courthouse, in Eden-street, to the end of the year, so that in the interval they might have time to look about for some suitable building.;. Judge Fenton readily acquiesced in the step, though at considerable inconvenience to his public duties, and took up his quarters in the building formerly used as a Wesleyan Chapel in High-street. It has been decided, however, to make necessary alterations in tlm building to fit it for a Court-house, and in a few days bricklayers will be set to work to erect partitions, when the District Judge and Resident Magistrate will have to vacate the place until the alterations have been completed, and to fall back upon the old building in Eden-street. In view of this, we understand, a letter has been sent by the Government, informing the Board of Governours that the latter building roust be vacated by them. The next term of the Grammar School begins on the sth of February, but up to the present time the Board of Governors do not appear to have taken any steps to provide other aocommodation ; and until the grand palatial edifice, which is to cost £9000, has been erected, the pupils will be houseless. Do the Board intend to convert the institution into a "hedge-school," or are they prepared to stand another siege? We only know from current rumour that Colonel Haultain, one of the Governors, has been observed making a secret raconnaisaucq of the building, leading to the inference that he is engaged in preparing a plan of defence. .No declaration of war has yet been made, but the distant rumbling of the approaching battle already strikes on the ear. Our special war correspondent will be again at the front in time to chronicle the progress of the dire conflict.
