EDUCATION RESERVES.

A MEETING of the Education Reserves Commissioners was held this afternoon, Dr. Campbell (chairman), Messrs "Tole (chief commissioner Waste Lands), May, and Shera. —The business of the meeting was chiefly to consider the leasing of education reserves vested in the school commissioners for the Auckland Provincial District.

Mount St. John Resebves.— The lease of this reserve adjoining Mr Murdock's property was introkuced.—Mr May thought that 14 years was too long a term, and proposed 5 years, in fact it should only be let from year to year; it never ought to have been an educational but a recreation reserve.—A good deal of discussion followed, when Mr May moved, and Mr Shera seconded, and it was carried, "That the term of lease be seven years."

ISWaitakeeei.—A letter was read from Mr Smith to the * effect that the Commissioners could not enforce furrher payment of rent for his allotment, owing to a flaw in the lease, with the solicitor's opinions thereon.

Me Reed's Allotments.—A letter from Mr Reed, who held a lease of 21 years under the old Board, was discussed as to his claim upon the Board. It was stated that Mr Reed had made great improvements upon his land.— Two valuations as to improvements were put in, one for £20 and another £30.—Mr Shera thought it best to give £20, which would meet the case and save litigation. He would move that £20 be tendered to Mr Reed, which was agreed to.
