CAUTION TO WOOL GROWERS AT THE CAPE AND AUSTRALIAS.

We take the following from The Commission Agent, a commercial journal : - Some years since, the Bradford Chamber of Commerce issued a circular to growers of wool, calling their attention to certain practices which prevailed in some parts in connection with the winding and getting-up of wool. The Council believe that the ciicular has been the means of effecting considerable reform; but ( as during the past year several cases have come before the courts in which growers have been Bued for damages arising from false winding, &c. (i c , inserting in the fleeces cots, washed locks, dung, clags, and other substances), which have been decided in every case against them, the Council think it advisable again to call attention to the necessity for proper care in washing, clagging, and winding. It is besides extremely desirable that flock-masters should be careful not to clip wool in wet weather, when it is not thoroughly dry, as if wound in that state it deteriorates greatly if kept for any length of time. Shearing is also often carried on in places containing chopped straw and chaff, which get mixed with the wool, causing great trouble and damage in the process of manufacture. An improvement in these particulars would be of direct advantage to both seller and buyer, and, in the face of keen foreign competition, it is only by the cordial co-operation of the producing with the manufacturing classes that this country can hope to hold its own."
