AUCKLAND TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION.
Hit: membeis of the Teachers' Associative met on Saturday afternoon in the sch< 01-room of Mr». Shayle George, Sj monds-street, Dr. Roberi Kidd in the chair, for the pnipoee of discussing the quiation " Vvhat U the best method of carrying on the Association in future ?'' Several letters were read from persoi s who were unable to attend. Key. W. Taylor offered a room for the use of the association ; Mr. McMunlo of Wangarei suggested branch sssociptkns, while Mr. Harrison and iMi-s Haselden were desir< us of seeing the society progress. Mrs. Davis of the North &hore, wrote a letter expressive of her sympathy with the objects, and was anxious that a library of standard works should be established if possible. Mr Bailey sent in a Bet of rules which he had drawn up ; Mr
i eonard also hinted at a few alterations which he thought would tend to invigoiate the society. Mr. Worthington considered that if Mr. Leonard's suggestions were prac-ically carried out the society would continue to exert a beneficent influence. Mrs George and Mrs Harden agreed with the last speaker, Mr. James Martin proposed an organising master for the province. Mr. Leonard promised to open the new essay season with a paper on "The best means of Improving the social status of school teachers in New Zealand." A picnic was also discussed, which will either be held at Sir George Grey's island or Ellerslle The next meeting will be held on the 3rd .November.
