November 23. Mr Paul Phillips, J.P., has b<-en found dead near his station in the far north. The yacht Nautilus capsized on Sunday afternoon, and two men, James Gostick and Samuel Scobel, were drowned. The Flintshire has arrived from Singapore ; she left Samarang on October 30. Cargo : For Brisbane, 250 tons suaar; for Sydney, 100 tons sugar, 500 baas coffee ; avh optional for Sydaey or Melbourne, 800 tois sugar. Passengers—For Sydney : Captain Smith, of the Mindona, which foundered in a ty phoon. The Government have caused a survey to be made for an anchorage at the Gulf of Carpentaria, to discover a port suitable for vessels of large]tonn»ge, in the event of the projected scheme of j a transcontinental raili way being carried out. I Some larrakins were arrested on Saturday ' night for brutally assaulting a gentleman. To-day they were brought up and fined £2 for the assault. It is thought that the Bench should have ordered flogging. ! Sales of new wheat ; 4s 6d for early delivery, and old 4s lid The Birracouta was used as a transport during the Ashantee war. She remains here a week, and then proceeds to Sydney. The ship Cornuvia has been floated [into harbour. The banks propose charging od each for the collection of orders not payable at the bank or Government office.
