BOARD OF EDUCATION.
A meeting of the members of the Board of Education was held this afternoon. Present: Messrs Beveridge (chairman), Haultam, Philips, Prime, Campbell, and Dargaville. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, a number of letters from country districts were read. The first from Onehunga, asking for an addition of £10, making £25, for the teacher's salary and £20 for school fittings and furniture. The Secretary would furnish the Board with the average attendance at the next meeting, when the matter would be decided. A number of similar applications from other localities were entertained. A report was introduced respecting examinations of teachers from Auckland, the Thames, and Wangarei Heads, with recommendations, but as it was very lengthy, it was ordered to lie on the table that any member might read it previous to the next meeting, when it would be considered, and if approved adopted by the Board.
