AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

A mooting of this Board was held on Saturday ; present—Messrs J. R. Newton (in the ohair), Checkley, Piper, and Newbegin. An apology was read from Mr R. A. Pettigrew. MINUTES. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Inward correspondence was read--From Messrs Meares and Williams, asking for copies of noticea eeut to Meesrs Buckland and Wright and Hooker re removal of gates from Mt. Bossu Road. The Olerk said he had refused to send the information without consulting the Chairman. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Piper seoonded by Mr Oheckley—-That the information be fumi-hed. On the motion of Mr Checkley, eeoonded by the Chairman, the Clerk's action in not giving the information in question till the meeting of the Board, was approved. From Messrs Meares and Williams, oomplaining that the fence on Mt. Bussu Road was encroaching on tha road, and asking it to be erected on the proper line.

Mr Newb-'gin said that one strainer had been pub a foot oi two out of the line as ii was on a rocky knob. The fence was virtuj ally on the Hue; but its was the usual give and take. There was plenty of room for the traffic It was resolved that iMeasrs Meares and Williams should be informed the Board would make enquiries. METAL, Mr Amos Arnold was granted the sum of £12 on account of metal broken by him on Wainui road. SMALL BIBDS NUIBANOE. The circular from the County re certain days for poisoning small birds was read. It was resolved the neoeesary steps be taken to lay poison on the roads. From Mrs Vanatone asking that her road ehould be metalled. The Clerk was instructed to write asking Mre Vaostone if she would give metal for tho upper part of her road. track to her property, French Farm, and 1 also offering 10s for log on road. The Chairman said there would be 50 ohstine of track, and the grade would be 1 in 7or 8. The ooat would probably be about 6a or 7s per chain. Mr Piper moved—That Mrs Perham be offered £10 to form an Bft truck from Wright's road to the leading spur, to the satisfaction ot the Board. Seoonded by Mr Newbegin and carried. From Mr V. Narbey, an application for £7 for splitting posts. To go on pay sheet. From Treasury notifying £155 0s 10d had been granted as sub'idy to Board for the past year. INTERVIEW. Mr H. White waited on the Board, asking them to call for tenders for Allan's Road, to bj in by next meeting, and asking if the Chuirman were satisfied with the grade of came. The Chairman reported he was satisfied with the grade. Id wae resolved the work be laid out and tenders called for the work, to be in by next meeting;. ANNUAL MEETIKCI. The annual meeting was then called on, the Chairman announcing that, as the balance sheet had not been returned from the Auditor Gener&l, the mee'ing could not be held. On the motion of Mr Reid, seconded by Mr MoDorald, the annual meeting was adjourned to Oct. 10th. foremen's reports.

Mr T. LeComte reports that Robinson's Bay metalling is finished, except for piece on lower end of new road. The two footbridges on Pawson's Valley have been fixed up. A new culvert has been put in on road between French Farm and Barry's Bay. He wishes to draw attention to the faco ihtkt all the timber in the yard has been uaed up, acd he has none to fall back on in case of emergency. Having received word that roads were bad in Little Kiver, he went over and put on two men, and also a dray to cart metal t > put into ruts, some of which were 18 inches deep and as wide, All the Little River roads require attention. He trusts Board will approve of hie action ie putting on th 3 two men and dray to fix up worst places. He has been attending lo slip* on various roads—a bad one came out at Boat shed, French Farm, and has been attended to. He is now continuing with metal, authorised some time ago. After thia is done, he will go to Barry's Bay Valley, as there are some ralher dangerous places. In his last report, he drew Board's attention to Mr F. Crump's sledging down roads and blocking culverts at Little Rivor. When last over there, the places complained of, were worse than ever.

Mr H. Bunny reports lhab he has finished spawling stone for crusher on Long Bay road. He has worked on W, Hewitt , d road, This road wants metalling, as it is almost impassable in winter. Nearly all traffic from Long Bay ioad goes this way, as it is a short out. Mo&t of the roads are none the worse for the last heavy rains. On the Kaik road, a very nasty hole sank in roadway. It went straight down like a well. He is now working at crusher, which is doing very good work, breaking from 85 to 91 yards per day,

Mr A. Johnson reports that since your last meeting, I have been removing slips and cleaning water channels on Bossu road. This road is now in very good order, with exception of some small slips. lam now wotking on the Wainui main road. Mr A. McDonald's road wants about three days work. I recommend that A. Arnold get the sum of £12 on his metal contract. The reports were adopted. PADDOCK. Mr Paton wrote, asking if the Board would let bim the old Road Board paddock on the same terms as Mr Barker, and also if Mr Barker had the right to remove buildiags from same. The Chairman said he had given Mr Barker to understand that he might remove the buildings in question. It was resolved Mr P&ton be offered the leaee of the half acre for 10a per year for five years if he would leave fences in good repair, and that he be informed that the buildings were Mr Barker's, and the Board made no claim on them. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The statement showed receipts had been £6 19a from Ocean Accident Insurance Co , and the debit balanoe at the Bank was £236 8s 2d. The report wa3 adopted. KAIK ROAD BIVBRSION. It was resolved the Clerk write to Mr G. Robinson on the subject and endeavour to push matters on at once. CULVERT. Mr Newbegin said a culvert was out of repair near Wainui wharf thab he wished the Chairman to inspect. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £189 17s were passed for payment. TENDER. Mr M. Shepherd's tender for breaking metal at 5s 4d per yard for Bell's road was accepted. The meeting then adjourned to Ootober 10th.
