Right worthily did be wield hie power, unbending with such heartiness, that in a few rninutbs jocularity and song had exercised their nway, and the mirth thus engendered never flagged till the time of separation came. At tho conclusion of his address he presented Mr Leote with a purse of sovereigns. That members heartily endoreed ell that was eaid wae evident from the hearty expressions of approval that fell from all ac Mr Henning spoke ; and had there been a final doubt of any want of geniality on the matter it would have been dispelled by the way the rafters** were lifted when the time came for musical honours. Mr Penrose, faithful to the nautical character of the meeting, chanted " 'Twus in Trnfalger's Bay" most harmoniously, and then Mr Leete responded,* thanking all most heartily for their kinds ness and sympathy, and stating that bia heart was with the A.8.C., and that whilst he remained in Akaroa he should do his very best in its interest- The presentation of prizes won at the last local regatta then took place : the first, a handsome clock, having been won by Mr J.
