Original Correspondence

We are at all times ready to give expression to ererg shade of opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the views advocated by oar correspondents.

SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION,

To the Editor

Sir, — As proposer of a resolution that was carried at a meeting held yesterday, viz., " That a Committee be " formed to consider the possibility of '• forming a Setters' Association, to re- " port to a meeting to be held at some " future date," 1 wish to explain that my wish, is far as my own views are concerned, is to see a strong body formed on the Peninsula that can watch over the interests of the settlers ; and this can be affiliated to otner bodies of tho samo sort all over New Zealand. I think that nothing else is of much use— we cannot stand alone.

I am most anxious to bo allowed in the future to employ the same men that I have employed for years, and to pay thorn the highest rate of wages that are ruling in the district.

Will you kindly allow this to appear in your paper.—Yours, etc.,

J. P. MENZIES Macintosh Bay, Sept. 10, 1890.
