POLITICAL.

[from our special correspondent.]

Welington, Sept. 11

The whole of the afternoon lias been oocupie 1 in the discussion of a report of tho Joint Committee on the Rabbit question, and at 530 the report was adopted with the addition—" That the Government take still further steps to abate the nuisance." During the afternoon the Upper House passed the Post and Te'egraph Classification Bill without any amendment This ought to ba good news for the boys in their respective offices. The Premier tells me hp looks upon it as the Bill of the session. Goldie's motion censuring the Government is giving some cause of trouble, as it is a direct want of confidence motion in the Government, and the vote will be a close one, probably not more than three in favour of tho Government. All the Skinflints will go with Goldie, who has been described in the lobbies this evening as a monkey playing with matches in a powder magazine. A s'iiiht mistake in form of procedure has boon made in bringing down tho supplementary estimates which will cause them to be delayed till Saturday. I notice there arc two small items on for your locality. Thewhoh of the evening will probably be taken up with the discussion of the ocein mail service,»and a hostile motion in connection with the Railway Commissioners dismissing the Lyttelton railway men. It is at present thought that prorogation will take place on Tuesday. Members are beginning to leave, and those who car,e to stand again are getting anxious about their constituencies and the local rolls. There has, I hear, been a great row on the wharf this evening, and four Unionists have been arrested for obstructing the polite and tho free labour men.
