FARMERS' UNION.
The annual meeting of the Dunstan Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Alexandra on Monday, June 17. The meeting was well attended and was presided over by Mr E. Tohill. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, pointed out that last year there were 40 members and that this year the membership was 47, showing a very substantial increase. The levy of the penny per acre had amounted to £lB and there were several who had not yet sent in their contribution. The committee that was appointed by the Government, to investigate the irrigation problems, had made their report. A deputation had waited on the Minister of Public Works, when he visited the district, and he was pleased to know that all-round reductions were made. A race was now being constructed from the Mauuherikia Biver as a supplementary supply' to the irrigators on Galloway and he un-. derstood that there was every prospect of a dam being built in the Poolburn at an early date. Mr Harris, the organiser, had visited the district and had been very successful in getting additional members to join up. He thanked the executive, also the secretary, for the work they had done in the interests of the Union, and for the way they had arranged the deputations to wait on the Ministers. Tie motion was seconded by Mr Iversen and carried.
ELECTION OP OFFICERS. Mr Marslin proposed and Mr Noble seconded that Mr R. Toliill be reelected president. Several members congratulated Mr Toliill on the able way he had filled the position and the motion was carried unanimously. Vice-presidents.—Messrs K. Gartley and E. Iversen. Secretary, Mr L. Ryan.
Auditors.—Messrs M. M'Ginnis and J. Keddell.
Executive.—Messrs W. Noble, G. Gartley, S. Govau, M. M'Ginnis, H. Dennistou, E. Marslin, W. A. Bodkin, M.P., J. Keddell, J. Craig, W. M'Donnell, C. Grant, B. Attfield and J. Cummock.
Mr Marslin proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Bodkin, M.P, who had already done so much for the district he now represents.—The motion was carried by acclamation. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
