Ophir Water Supply.

At - last week's meeting of the Vincent County Council the engineer submitted a report on three different schemes for supplying the residents of Ophir with water. He suggested raising water from the water channel to the storage tank above Ophir by means of a ram, or windmill, or an oil engine. The windmill scheme would, in his opinion, prove most satisfactory. Gr Flanncry strongly urged the completion of the scheme, and asked that the work bz put in hand at once owing to the dry season approaching. There was a race being constructed out of the channel " at Stringer's, and the''council should immediately take steps to protect the right. Replying to the chairman, Cr Flannery did not favor getting water from the Bonanza race as there appeared very little hope of getting this water around to Ophir tor many years to come. The residents had been agitating for years to have the Bonanza water taken round to above the town, but they were no further ahead.

Cr Weaver considered a ram would serve the purpose, and would be more satisfactory than either/ a winchmill or an. oil engine. A long discussion ensued on the respective schemes,' in which it was stated that the residents .were prepared to put" down .£IOO for a scheme, the council had agreed to contribute and the Government would grant a subsidy up to ,£l5O. Finally it was agreed that Cr Flannery call a meeting of residents to decide what scheme would be most preferable for them.
