The result of the Rangitikei bye-election has led to much editorial bciny written. After referring to the second ballot a contemporary thus concludes :—"This is a flattering result for the victor, for there are a number of so-called Liberals in every constituency whose political jealousy overwhelm any political convictions with which ihey may be burdened. The second ballot has, on this occasion, dme good service. Contrary to expectation, its effect was entirely different from that which it had when Mr Scott and Mr Macpherson met in deadly contest in the South. Perhaps, the absurd and discreditable conduct of Liberals on that occasion, casting their votes for the Tory candidate, has been a lesson to other constituencies."
