The Stud.

Seldom is the opportunity presented to horse breeders in Central Otago as that offered this season by the importation of the thoroughbred stallion Grafton Loeh into the Lauder district by Messrs Shep-r pan! Bros, and W. Wilson. This hand-' some son of Grafton—Loch Lotta was purchased by the present owners during the early part of the winter for stud purposes, and they are to be complimented on securing such a valuable stallion. Grafton Loch is a dark brown horse, five years old, and standing 10Ahands high. Possessing a splendidly mild temper, his services should be much sought after by breeders. Ever since the weight-for-age races were deleted fr/mi the programmes of country clubs, due principally to the absence of suitable stallions on the goldliolds, breeding for racing has: been a back number in Central Otago for many years. The presence of Grafton Loeh should now be the means of again inducing owners to mate suitable racing mares with the son of Grafton, and iu the course, of a few years we may look forward to the presence of this handsome stallion infusing new blood into the country racing arenas. Grafton Loeh comes of excellent stock, for his sire was Galopin —.Maid Marion, two well-known racers. Loch Lotta (Grafton Loch's dam) was foaled by Locliiel from Lady Trenville, and as this progeny eames with it some of the Trenton blood there is every guarantee of Grafton Loeh throwing some reliable and valuable stock. Grafton's"' progeny have accounted for over 800 races during the past live years., the value of which amounts to £20(5,00;); while those of Lochiel have won for the same period 525 races valued at £55,000. The fee set down for Grafton Loch's services is £5 5s for thoroughbreds, and £1 4s for other mares. Full particulars of Graf ton Loch will be found in this issue.
