Dunstan District Hospital.

ANNUAL REPORT

The following is the annual report of the trustees of the above institution presented at the annual meeting of subscribers held last week :

Your trustees beg to submit to the subscribers their annual report and b ijanee sheet (the 46th of the existence of the Institution) for their approval. Inclusive of the last annual meeting your trustees have held 19 meetings during the year, at which the attendance was good evidencing the great interest taken in the institution. The existing board pending' this meeting consists of six members, the Vincent County Hospital Board appointing two, tne respective boroughs of Alexandra and Cromwell one each and the subscribers two. As only one of the two elected by the subscribers goes out of office through the effluxion of time you will be called npon to select one from among the subscribers to fill his place. The institution during the past year has worked along in the even tenor of its way nothing specially occuring to call for direct attention, saving perhaps the dismissal of the wardsman and whose place'will now have to be filled The surgeon's report attached embodies full particulars of the patients treated and other matters coming under his control.

The balance-sheet goes fairly into detail of the particulars of the revenue and expenditure, a noticeable feature, however, is that while the subscriptions show a marked increase, there is a proportional decrease in the amount received from patients for maintenance, but withal your trustees consider the position satisfactory and desire to express tbeir gratitude for the support given, thus enabling them to maintain the institution in its full usefulness. We would desire also to express our full appreciation of the services of the resident surgeon, honorary surgeons and stafl". SURGEON'S REPORT. I beg to report that 43 indoor patients were treated in the hospital during the year. "These came from the following districts:—Alexandra (12), Clyde (6), Earnecleugh (5) Matakanui (4), Galloway {2), Ophir and Omakau (3), Bald Hill Flat (3), Ida Valley (3), Moutere (2), Swagger (1), Lauder (1), Kawarau (1). There were eight deaths during the year, at ages of 81, 73, 72, 72, 50, 18, 16, and 32. Balance-sheet. For 9 months ending 31/12/08.
