TINWALD AFFAIRS

NEW BOARD’S INITIAL MEETING Business was fairly brief at the first meeting of the Tinwald Town Board since the election, held last evening, when there were present Messrs H. B. Millichamp, R. J. Tarbotton, G. Glassey. C. Denham and. A. C. Wakelin.

Mr Millichamp was elected chairman, and later he congratulated old members on their return, and extended a welcome to Mr Denham as a new member. , The Ashburton Borough Council forwarded a copy of a letter received from the Town Planning Board, stating that it was awaiting the Tinwald Town Board’s approval of this scheme, when the schemes for the three local authorities would be submitted to the Town Planning Board. The Clerk (Mr J. B. Nicoll) stated that the Tinwald scheme had been approved many months ago subject to certain provisos, and it was resolved to advise the Town Planning Board to..this effect. The chairman reported that a halfacre section in George Street had been purchased by the board for the establishment of a depot and yard for the board’s plfint, and that steps would be taken to procure a suitable building to house the plant. The Department of Health asked for a, monthly list of building permits issued, as its officer wished to see that there was adequate provision made for the disposal of waste waters from new residences, since in, some cases this had been unsatisfactory in some districts. It was agreed that the return be supplied. ‘ It was decided to accept Mr T. Skilling’s tender for the sanitary contract, commencing with'the week of December -18.
