K-FORCE

HEAVY WINTER CLOTHING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 22. When K-Force sails 'for Korea it will take heavy winter clothing, and will receive more on arrival, either from the United States forces or from the British, it was officially stated to-day. Extra clothes already issued to the troops in New Zealand or being placed on board ship for issue on or before arrival at their destination are heavy woollen vests, long heavy woollen underpants, leather jerkins and greatcoats as well as specially made raincoats, woollen scarves, jerseys, and woollen gloves. If K-Force draws its additional clothing from the British forces it can expect to receive such items as heavy boots with felt insoles specially made for snow or mountain warfare, threecompartment woollen gloves, heavy woollen jerseys, leather gauntlets, neck squares for use as scarves, string vests worn next to the skin to allow air to insulate the body from other clothing, windproof smocks and trousers, and, for troops in specially exposed situations, kapoc coats.

Details of the American scale of winter clothing in Korea are not yet available, but it is known that the unified command attaches much importance to the clothing of the troops in cold weather.
