PRICES AGAIN INCREASE

FAT STOCK "OFFERED AT ADDINGTON ' + (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. Prices for fat stock at the Addington market to-day were even higher that at last week’s phenomenal sale. Spring lambs showed the sharpest rise. They were yarded in smaller numbers, and there wdre several sales at more than 70s. On the average they were about 5s dearer. Best spring lambs sold at 68s to 73s 7d, good 61s to 67s and others down to. 50s. With 5215 head there were almost 1000 more fat sheep than last week, and although the market opened at a shade below last week’s high levels it firmed, and the sale closed on a firm tone, with prices rising. Over the whole sale values were about Is above last week. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 78s Id; prime heavy, 62s 6d to 68s; prime medium-weightysss to 625; ordinary ahd light, 43s to 535; extra prime ewes, to 62s Id; prime, 46s to 535; prime medium-weight, 41s to 455; ordinary and light, 30s to 41s. The store sheep yarding totalled 5895 head, compared with 4311 last week. The sale was not quite so animated as last week, hut prices did not show much change in the store hogget section. There were almost 3000 head, and they were of rather better quality Hhan last week. Ewes were relatively scarce, and were from par to Is dearer. The best of ewes made to 102 s for good shorn Romneys, best ewe hoggets made 73s to 102 s, good 61s to 755, and others 51s to 60s. Wether hoggets were not so keenly sought, and were Is to- 2s easier. Best wether hoggets made 58s to 735, good 52's to 575, medium 45s to 51s, and culls'down to 31s. There was little change in prices for ewes and lambs. Three lines of woolly ewes with lambs made 51s to 525, and best of shorn ewes and lambs made 42s to’4ss 6d and others 35s to 40s. There was a big entry of wethers, mainly station sheep from all over the South Island. Best made 52s 6d to 60s and others 40s to 525. There were higher prices for fat cattle. Best quality beef, of which there was not a big section, was £1 a head dearer, and well-finished handy-weight steers and best heifers were in good demand. Good cows were also firm to slightly dearer. Best beef made 90s to 95s per 1001 b, good 72s 6d to 80s, medium to 655; best cow 62s 6d to 70s, and plain cow 60s. Values: Extra prime heavy steers, to £43 7s 6d, prime heavy £25 10s to £29 10s, ordinary and light £lB to £2s’ extra prime heifers to £33 2s 6d, prime £22 to £25 10s, ordinary and light £ls to £2l; extra prime cows to £3O 2s 6d, prime £l7 10s to £22 10s. ordinary and plain to £l6 10s - There was another heavy yarding of pork in the fat pig section, and the market opened 3s to 5s easier, but half-way through there was a which continued to the end. Choppers were also in heavy supply, but there was no appreciable change in prices. A large baconer entry included a much better type of pig, and all bacon sold about Id per lb above schedule rates. Values: Light porkers £4 12s 6d to £5 4s 6d, medium £5 7s 6d to £5 14s 6d, heavy £5 17s Cd to £6 2s 6d, light baconers £6 4s 6d to £6 14s 6d, medium £6 los 6d to £6 19s 6d, heavy £7 2s 6d to £7 8s 6d.
