The music bursary selection committee—Dr. Galway, organising professor of music in the University of New Zealand; Mr Stanley Oliver, chairman of the music teachers’ registration board; Mr. Michael Bowles, conductor of the National Orchestra—had recommended the award of Government bursa/ies to the following, announced the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. A. Bodkin, tonight:— Edwin Booth, of Petone, oboe. Gwyneth Brown, of Wellington, piano.' Teresa Fahey, of Timaru, violin. Mina Foley, of Auckland, grant of £250 for passage money. Leslie Jordan, of Waikouaiti, composition. Alan Meldrum, of Dunedin, piano. Patricia Naismith, of Dunedin, viola. Larry Pruden, of New Plymouth, composition and conducting. Layton Ring, of Auckland, early musical instruments. Berenice Rodewalde, of Auckland, composition. Geoffrey Skerrett, of Auckland, piano. Shirley Welch, of Inglewood, piano. Pamela Lyon, of Auckland, ballet. The bursaries range from a short term award of three months to enable the recipient to take an advanced course of tuition at Sydney (Eonservatorium of Music to full two-year bursaries of £360 a year tenable mainly at the recognised schools of music in London.
