CLAIM FOR WAGE INCREASE

T.U.C. AND GOVERNMENT TO CONFER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. ' The Trade Union Congress is anxious to proceed immediately with its claim for a £3 10s weekly general wage increase. Its annual executive will meet the Government this week to press for a o.uick hearing of its claim. It Was lodged with the Court of Arbitration on November 2 by the president of the congress (Mr T. G. Potter) on behalf of the Auckland General Labourers’ Union. The Court later said that a fixture would not be made until after discussions with all interested parties. These include the Federation of Labour, which in April lodged a claim for a general increase of £2 15s. The ■federation had said that it has not yet completed the research and statistics it needs, to support its case. “If the Federation’ of Labour is not ready after seven months to present its case, we are ready right now,” declared the national executive of the congress in a statement issued in Wellington to-day. The statement added that the executive would meet the Government this week.
