WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

CHERTSEY-PENDARVES MEETING

There was a good attendance at the November meeting of the ChertseyPendarves W. 1., at which three new members were welcomed by the president, Mrs Bishop. ■ Mrs J. McQuillan, voluntary organiser, was present and gave a most interesting talk on the Institute movement. Arrangements were made for the Children’s Xmas Party next month. Mrs Holland reported on the halfyearly • meeting at Methven. The rose show had been held recently, it was reported, and many beautiful blooms had been staged. These were judged by Mesdames McQuilkin, Farrell and Lowe. The monthly competitions were for bed jacket, knitted article, patchwork cushion, floral carpet in tray, and a salad.

LYNDHURST MONTHLY MEETING

At the November meeting of the Lyndhurst Women’s Institute International Day was marked by a programme of pianoforte music. Mies J. McKendry was the guest artist and delighted all present with her playing of national songs and dances of many countries. Mrs R. Bishop presided at the meeting, which was held at the home of Mrs Dunkley.

A collection of “pennies for friendship’’ for A.C.W.W. funds brought in a record sum. Mm L. Anderson kindly offered the use of her garden for the next meeting on December 13. Several members agreed to help in displaying the articles chosen for the Bay competition.

Votes of thanks were passed to the performer, the judges, Mesdames Kermode and Wilson, and the hostesses, Mesdames Henderson, Drummond and Dunkley.
