WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

LOWCLIFFE MEETING Mrs Price presided over a fair attendance at the November meeting of the Lowcliffe Women’s Institute. The motto, “She who joy would win must share it. Happiness was born a twin,” was given by Mrs Hawke.

Mrs Price read the Dominion president’s letter from “Home and Country.” A letter of acknowledgment was received from the leper man for money donated to the Leper Fund. Mrs Pearce’s offer to donate flowers to the Centennial float was received with appreciation. A recommendation that the children’s picnic take the form of a picture evening during the winter months was carried. The roll-call, “Can you tell me?” was well responded to.

A very interesting talk on China and Japan was given by Mrs Small, to whom thanks were expressed by Mrs Smythe. Results of competitions were: Best rose, Mrs Price and Mrs Hawke (equal) 1; bowl of roses, Mrs Hawke 1; nut loaf, Mrs Boyd 1, Mrs Smythe 2, Mrs Price 3; summer frock, Mrs Boyd 1, Mrs Price 2, Mrs Smythe 3; bloom, Mrs Hawke ;spike, Mrs Barnes; cluster, Mrs Heddell.
