JAPAN REBEL LEADER
SINGAPORE COURT ACTION 1 SINGAPORE, Aug. 16. Mr Justice Evans, in the Singapore High Court, to-day rejected an application by the Indonesian Government for a stay of execution of a deportation order against Captain R. P. D. Westerling, who led a revolt in Java early this year. The Court awarded high-level costs against the Indonesian Government. Mr Justice Evans said the Indonesian Government’s application was invalid, as judgment had already been given, ruling out the extradition of Captain Westerling to Indonesia. Counsel for the Indonesian Government did not request that Captain Westerling be held in the Court's jurisdiction. Thus he may be released and deported if an order is given to that effect by the Governor of Singapore.
