Helicopters have been ordered from the United States for use in future flood or fire disasters. Announcing this, the Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr T. W. White, said the private owners of Dakotas and other cargo-carrying planes had cooperated splendidly, but the Department planned to set up a force like the air-sea rescue, which could be sent to areas as emergency arose. The Darling River at Bourke rose a further five inches yesterday, and townspeople worked on levees all night. The peak of the flood is expected in about four days. The township of Louth ( _63 miles downstream, is almost surrounded by water. At Brewarrina, on the Barwon River, sirens sounded when the levee Showed signs of collapsing. Two hundred men, using 15 trucks and two tractors, managed to shore up the damaged section. Dakota aircraft from Tamworth dropped 58 tons of fodder yesterday over north-western New South Wales.
