FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” June 22, 1900). OddfelloAvship—The first meeting of the newly-formed Lodge of- Past Grands—M.U.l.O.O.F.—Avas held in the Oddfellows” Chambers. P.G.M. W. Soal occupied the chair, and the following officers were elected: President, Mr W. Soal; vice-presidents, Mr T-. Norgan; seertary and treasurer, Mr Arthur Patterson. The honour of filling the Past President’s chair was conferred upon P.G. Kingham; Guardian, J. Patterson; R.S. to P.A., A. C. Hardy; R.S. to V.P., R. Johnstone. It was decided that the name of the lodge be “Nil Desperandum.”

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” June 22, 1925). Golf at Mount Somers— Though there is no golf club at Mount Somers, the Royal and ancient game claims many devotees, AVhose ranks have increased lately by neAV disciples. It is not uncommon to see players either singly or in parties, teeing off or pursuing the elusive ball over courses, that, whatever their merits, provide plenty of exercise in overcoming bunkers. Some of the players display con- j siderable skill, and there is a nucleus of a strong club in the district.—New Headmaster: The Canterbury Education Board confirmed the appointment of Mr S. H. Sullivan as headmaster of the Allenton School and accepted Miss. M. Oakley’s resignation as pupil teacher at the same school.
