LORD MAYORS AND ALDERMEN

WELLINGTON REQUEST REFUSED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 20. New Zealand is .to have no lord mayors or aldermen. This decision was made by the Cabinet after it had considered an application by the Wellington City Council for the grant of a patent from the King designating the Mayor of Wellington .as Lord Mayor, with a consequent alteration in the designation of councillor to that of aldermen. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. A. Bodkin) said to-day that it had been decided not to recommend any alteration in the present status or designation in New Zealand.
