EIGHTH ARMY MEMORIAL

WINDOW IN CAIRO CATHEDRAL LONDON, June 19. Progress on an Eighth Army memorial window for the Cairo Cathedral has been inspected by Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery, accompanied by General Sir Oliver Leese, who commanded the Eighth Army in 1944, General Sir James Steele, and General Sir Richard McCreery. Nearly all the 12,000 pieces of glass have now been cut, and the top half of the window has been finished. This illustrates a figure of the Virgin Mary and of Christ as a boy, holding in His hand a ship as a symbol of the Church. In the lower part of the window, which is 13ft high and 3ft wide, will be depicted the sign of the Eighth Army. The cost of the window has been subscribed by members of the Eighth Army, and the window will be finished in time to be on view at the El Alamein reunion in October.
