DEAN OF CANTERBURY

INVITATION TO PREACH IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, April 11. The Dean of Canterbury (Dr. Hewlett Johnson) has been invited by Australian Anglican Church leaders to preach in St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney, on April 23, during his visit to attend tlie congress of the Australian Peace Council. The Dean of Sydney (Dr. S. B. Babbage) said that Dr. Johnson had been invited, as holder of the office of Dean of Canterbury, to preach on tho restoration of Canternury Cathedral. This was considered fitting, as St. Andrew’s ‘Cathedral had originated an appeal for funds, and New South Wales had raised £IO,OOO. Alderman Quinlan, Lord Mayor of Newcastle, has declined to give Dr. Johnson a civic reception.
