EVACUATION ATTEMPT ABANDONED

FOREIGNERS IN SHANGHAI (Rec. 9.30) HONG KONG, April 11. An attempt by the British Ministri of Transport to send the British vessel Anking to evacuate 900 British and other foreigners from Shanghai was abandoned to-day following a refusal of the Chinese Nationalists to guarantee her safe passage. Earlier, the Communists had granted the vessel permission to proceed.
