CENTENNIAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE TO BE FORMED At to-day’s meeting of the Ashburton County Council, a report Avas submitted of the meeting held on February 23 between representatives of the Council, the Boorugh Council, and the Tinwald Town Board, Avith members of the. Canterbury Centennial Commitee. The outcome of the meeting Avas a recommendation that representatives of the local bodies Avho were parties to the conference report back to their councils suggesting that three representatives from each be appointed as a nucleus of a committee for MidCanterbury district, and that a further meeting of these representatWes be called for Monday, March 20. The chairman reported attending a meeting of the central committee in Christchurch, and that matters seemed to be well acWanced. The report Avas received. Councillors M. D. McDowell, J. Davidson and R. Oakley Avere appointed to represent the council. Finance Committee Accounts amounting to £12,801 4s 2d Avere recommended for payment. The financial' statement shoAved a credit of £31,782 0s 7d. It Avas decided to make the usual grant of £lO to the Ashburton Silver Band ,and to congratulate the band on its success at the recent contest.
