ISOTOPES TO BE USED AT OAK RIDGE WASHINGTON, March 15. Selected cancer patients will soon be admitted to a new hospital at the Oak Ridge atomic plant for research with isotopes. Children suffering from leukaemia —cancer of the white blood cells —will receive priority. Dr. Shield Warren, medical director of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, said that patients would be taken to Oak Ridge so that the powers of “short-lived” isotopes could be tested. Many of these isotopes “died” before they could he sent very far. Dr. Warren added that medical science already had proved" the value of radio-active iodine and cobalt in cancer treatment.
