NELSON, March 14. Because of the lack of transport for horses from the North Island, the Nelson Hockey Club has been compelled to

abandon the meeting to have been held on April 15 and 17. The club depends for the success of the meeting on the North Island entries. Last year 3S horses came from northern stables. It is uncertain that the steamer Matangi will be available and, in any case, she has accommodation for only 16 horses. Preparations were made for the meeting in the anticipation that the Anchor Company’s new steamer Ngaio would be ready, as she could carry 50 horses, but it is now known that the Ngaio will not bo on the WcllingtonNelson run in time. The club has unsuccessfully attempted to arrange alternative transport.
